Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns Team President Carson “Cookie” Cook and Acadiana Hurricanes Head Coach Ross Jacobs have come to an agreement for Jacobs to be the Head Coach. Jacobs stated that he will be both the Head Coach for the Ragin’ Cajuns and the Hurricanes. Conveniently enough, both the Ragin’ Cajuns and the Hurricanes are based in Lafayette, LA. Also, both teams play their games at the Broussard Sports Complex at St. Julien Park.
Jacobs has been a part of Louisiana lacrosse for quite some time now, as he has began his coaching career for the Hurricanes Youth Program in 2012. In 2019, he became the Varsity Head Coach for the Acadiana Hurricanes. Furthermore, Jacobs can be found on the lacrosse field strapping it up his fellow laxers in men’s club games. Interestingly enough, I’ve tried on multiple occasions to recruit Jacobs in to becoming an official. I was unsuccessful in my attempts to persuade him over to the stripes, but I wish him the best of luck in his coaching career.
Jacobs has a full plate as a married man with a son. One can only imagine how he juggles the time between spending it with his family, working, going to school, playing in men’s club games, coaching the Hurricanes, and now coaching the Ragin’ Cajuns. I asked him about his plans for recruiting; he stated that he has 16 players that have confirmed (only a few seniors), and does plan to do some recruiting in the fall. Further into our discussion about recruiting, Jacobs stated that there’s no incentives to offer any of the recruits to persuade them to come to Lafayette. However, the are two things that Jacobs can offer to his recruits, along with the pamphlet for the University of Louisiana at Lafayette….that’s a bowl of jambalaya and some boudin.
