The LHSLL extends east of Slidell, LA into the Mississippi and Alabama Gulf Coast regions up to Daphne, AL. Therefore, LOLA has extended its recruiting efforts into the Gulf Coast region as well. One year ago, we landed a 5-star recruit out of Gautier, MS in Isaiah Currie. The former player/current coach and official joined the Lacrosse Officials of Louisiana in 2019; he officiated one season in 2015 with the Gulf Coast Lacrosse Officials Association.
Isaiah played soccer and lacrosse in high school. He played soccer for Gautier High School, but played lacrosse for Resurrection Catholic School (1 year) and Ocean Springs (3 years). He earned the honors of 1st Team All-Conference as a freshman and MVP twice during his playing days with Ocean Springs. In the summers of ‘12 & ‘13 he played for the Gulf Coast Lacrosse Bandits; he played for Team Louisiana in the summer of ‘14. Also, he played one year of lacrosse while attending the University of Alabama in Huntsville.
Isaiah began his coaching career while attending Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, where he earned a degree in 3D Modeling and Design; he graduated from M.G.C.C.C. in December of 2019. He spent three years as an assistant coach for Ocean Springs from ‘17-’19. He joined Southern Elite as an assistant coach for the 2020 season.
Currently, Isaiah is a Facilities Designer for VT Halter Marine in Pascagoula, MS. When he’s not working, coaching, or officiating, he can be found in a weight room lifting weights and training as he competes in Physique Competitions. He’s quite a resilient young man having been diagnosed with Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis at the age of two; there is no sign of it as of now.
